Love Potion No. 9 Cocktail Recipe

By Krista Roman

You and your Valentine won’t know if it’s day or night when this magical elixir takes you on a charming trip this February 14th. Cheers to romance with this loving recipe!

Ingredients:

This Love Potion No. 9 drink is a cherry spritzer that is ideal for the winter holidays. It’s a classic fruity cocktail composed of fresh lime, 100% fruit juice, maple syrup for a dash of sweetness, and sparkling water. Top it off with heart-shaped ice cubes and colorful berries for a drink that’s sure to make you fall in love.

  • 5 ounces 100% cherry juice (or supplement with pomegranate juice or cranberry juice)

  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

  • 1 large lime, juiced

  • OPTIONAL: 2 shots (jiggers) vodka [one shot or one jigger equals 1.5 fluid ounces]

  • Sparkling mineral water to top off each drink (Frank and Lauren love Topo Chico)

Garnishes

  • 2 tablespoons maple sugar for sugar rim

  • fresh raspberries

  • Heart Shaped Ice Cubes: 100% pomegranate juice for silicone heart molds (or cherry juice or cranberry juice)

Directions:

To make these sweet cocktails is simple and easy.

1. Start by preparing your cocktail glasses with a sugar rim. Rub the edge of the glass with just enough lime juice to wet the rim, then dip it in pure maple sugar. This extra step makes each sip feel so special! Set the glasses aside or pop it in the freezer to chill.

2. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes, shake the cherry juice, maple syrup, fresh lime, and vodka (forego the alcohol if you prefer to prepare a mocktail instead).

3. Fill the cocktail glasses with ice cubes and pour the cherry cocktail in until it's about half full, leaving room at the top for sparkling water and heart-shaped ice cubes.

4. Arrange fresh raspberries on a cocktail pick and place them in the drink or balancing on the top of the glass. Cheers with your sweetheart and enjoy!
