Frank’s Favorite Halloween Movies
If you’re looking for an exciting movie to watch this Halloween season, we’ve got you covered. Here are a few of my favorite films to set the tone for a spooktacular night of entertainment:
John Carpenter's Halloween (1978)
I can't get through October without watching this a few times; it's become a comfort film to me. Perfect example of how simplicity with a story is all you need. Tons of great trivia with this movie from the repurposed William Shatner mask to the leaves they had to rake up and lay down with every scene change since it was shot in the middle of summer. Most of all, my family and I love it because it reminds us of certain neighborhoods in our town.
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
It's often overlooked but I always liked Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci in Sleepy Hollow. Great spooky, foggy mood set up through the whole film, and I have a soft spot for period pieces where characters are traveling in horse-drawn carriage. I like the sound of the wagon wheels rolling over different surfaces, whether it be through New York cobblestone or Transylvanian woodlands.
Scream (1996)
I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
The soundtracks alone are pretty dope but both of these iconic teen slasher films from the 90s are nostalgic classics to me.
Frankenweenie (1984)
This is an obscure, 30-minute Tim Burton featurette, about a little boy who brings his car-struck dog back to life with the same kind of technology Dr. Frankenstein used on his monster. It follows much of the same story, right down to a burning Mini-Golf Windmill.
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
There is nothing cozier than Peanuts cartoon films to me, no matter the season or occasion. Great Pumpkin sets a good tone as a gateway to the holiday months; it's enjoyable for the whole family and I absolutely love the night sky in Charlie Brown cartoons.
