J's Retreat Wrap-Up

Retreat Thoughts (Community Health)

Frank, J and some retreat participants join the chefs prepping & spatchcocking chickens.

If you are reading this article, you already understand community. Your allegiance and participation in the Quite Frankly show has given you a community, a second family. A second family that you sometimes disagree with, find comfort in and travel through life alongside.

Many of you know me for my health science contribution to the show but what you don’t realize is how much your support means to me and pushes me forward. In any life pursuit, when you choose the path less taken you run into roadblocks and barriers that can halt your progress. Years ago I realized how important community is to making life’s journey more palatable.  I won’t bore you with the details or the science behind how community makes you healthier from a biochemical perspective, but I will tell you that at the inception of the Perpetual Health retreats there was the idea of closing the gap between the intellectual pursuit of health and the practical application.

Seeing some of you in this audience in real life was as unique and special a moment for me as it was for you. My hope for these retreats has always been that people will take home new tools to live a better life. The part I couldn’t possibly foresee was the impact it would have on me. As a musician, my goal in life was always to create music that meant something to others and improved their lives. In the health sciences, for some reason, I never realized how impactful education and eventually community was, much like music. Once upon a time I thought of this as a purely academic pursuit.

Watching you come from all corners of the country is something I will never forget. It brought the shows I do with Frank to life. Too often I think of the content I create as just being consumed and forgotten because of the times we live in. This is not the case with you. I learned that you internalize and apply these concepts to improve your health and that is something I will never forget or get tired of seeing.

When people gather something special happens. It makes challenges easier and creates unique memories. The future of this retreat is up to you. The more you desire to gather the more opportunities will be created for you.

Teaching at these events is important but the private conversations are even more important. I hope all of you that attended felt heard and found others who are like minded in their pursuit of health and wellness. Each event is unique and never to be repeated. Each gathering has a one of a kind energy based on the people who attend. I hope this audience continues to find value in what I bring and feel less crazy and alone while navigating health concerns. Together we will continue to change this paradigm  of health and I have more in store for you all as we go. Thank you for those who attended and to those who have not yet had the opportunity…I am already looking forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

J Gulinello
